Dynamic Process Analysis

Dynamic Process: Nick Francisco

Dynamic processes are a crucial part of development and function between business operations.  Like structured processes, dynamic processes have a culture around them to be inherently less formal than structured processes.  What this provides is a degree of flexibility between managerial decision making.

In pertinence to a specific dynamic process, BMS obviously has a very solid reputation around their finances, as well as research and development over the years orchestrating a wonderful variety of medical products and treatments for various diseases and illnesses.  This allows them to have a constant pull towards their products as they have all the resources and ability to draw in consumers due to their history as a company. For BMS, recruiting at this company is exceptionally important for their continued success.   There are many divisions that need to have adequate development to scale and continue to perform in a manner that is reliable relative to the demand of this company.

LinkedIn is a professional networking social media platform that would do fashionably well for the dynamic process around recruiting for this industry, and particularly BMS.  LinkedIn allows a vast reach for talent acquisition on both ends of the spectrum.  Recruiters or talent acquisition specialists within the company can use the platform to search for specific qualities to maintain and fill positions that are necessary within the company.  To show some of the benefits BMS had with talent acquisition using LinkedIn, they provided a brief case study.

The above image shows a steadiness in maintaining employees over the last handful of years.  It is noteworthy to mention that over the last five years, the amount of employees at BMS has increased a significant amount, even during the pandemic, where we saw a lot of layoffs around the world.  This in part, can be considered from the scaling and ability to find talent to fill important roles within the company from SMIS such as LinkedIn to maintain talent.

Social Media Plan/Social Capital: Kiran Kaur

Bristol Myers Squibb developed a comprehensive social media plan for recruiting that involves leveraging LinkedIn. BMS’s recruitment goals involve attracting top talent in scientific research, pharmaceuticals, business, and technology. Also, when the company was faced with a global pandemic, BMS planned to move to a remote workforce and wished to expand their hiring pools to new areas. BMS identifies success metrics such as the engagement rates on BMS job postings, the quality of hires sources from LinkedIn, and the increase in followers on BMS’s LinkedIn company page. Bristol Myers Squibb identifies its target audience based on specific roles the company is hiring for. This includes scientific researchers, medical professionals, business professionals, and technology experts. LinkedIn offers targeting tools that allow the company to reach these demographics effectively. The company defines its value by clearly communicating its commitment to healthcare, career development opportunities, and employee benefits on the company LinkedIn page. The company aspires to make personal connections by having employees share their insights, success stories, and experiences on the personal LinkedIn profiles. This makes the company more attractive to potential candidates and humanizes the company. In the last step, BMS uses LinkedIn analytic tools to track the performance of its job postings and content engagement. By analyzing talent pool data, competitive insights, and market research, BMS can further develop their recruiting strategy.

As mentioned in the textbook, “Using MIS,” social capital is known as the investment in social relations with the expectation of returns in the marketplace. (Kroenke, Boyle, p. 345-346) Social capital adds value through enabling access to valuable information through networks and relationships. Social capital also adds value through influence. Organizations with strong social connections can exert influence, which can be used to drive change or support causes. Additionally, social capital contributes to social credentials. Building strong relationships and having positive interactions within networks can open doors to collaborations, partnerships, and new opportunities. Lastly, value is added through personal reinforcement. Through positive interactions and relationships, organizations receive affirmation and support, which boosts confidence and motivation. Bristol Myers Squibb uses LinkedIn not only for recruiting, but also for fostering social capital and enhancing their brand presence. BMS encourages employees to have active LinkedIn profiles, which allows employees to connect, share insights, and collaborate. The company page also engages with employees, clients, and potential candidates, which helps in building a community and growing social capital. BMS has a high value social capital due to its expertise and the reputation it has built throughout the pharmaceuticals industry. BMS has acquired a lot of relationships, relationship strength, and entity resources through social media information systems like LinkedIn, contributing to the social capital of the company.

Enterprise Social Network: Kiran Kaur

An enterprise social network (ESN) is a software platform that uses social media to facilitate collaboration among employees. ESNs often use features such as user profiles, discussion forums, messaging, file sharing, and other tools. Examples of ESNs include Yammer and Microsoft Teams. Both are networks that include features such as messaging, group discussions, and file sharing. The term “Enterprise 2.0” means the use of enterprise social networks within companies. This includes leveraging tools like blogs, wikis, and social networking platforms. “SLATES” refers to six key characteristics of Enterprise 2.0 tools: Search, Links, Authoring, Tags, Extensions, and Signals. Searches allow users to easily access information within the platform. Links aid in navigation to enterprise resources on the web. Authoring refers to users creating content via blogs, wikis, discussion groups, and presentations. Tags are labels used to categorize contents that can result in folksonomies, or content structures that emerge from the processing of many tags. Extensions allow for integration of additional tools and functionalities. Lastly, signals allow users to receive notifications or alerts about any updates or changes in the platform.

Bristol Myers Squibb utilizes Enterprise 2.0 principles and tools like Microsoft Teams to enhance collaboration. Microsoft Teams, as an Enterprise 2.0 tool, allows BMS employees to collaborate, communicate in real-time, and share files. Within Teams, users can search to quickly find conversations or files. Users can also share links to documents, websites, or external sources. Bristol Myers Squibb uses SharePoint to share information regarding research & development. In Microsoft Teams, BMS employees can add published SharePoint pages in a Teams channel. This integration ensures that team members can work on files together without leaving the Teams environment. Teams supports authoring by allowing employees to co-create and edit documents. By using these ESN approaches, Bristol Myers Squibb promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and effective communication among team members.

SMIS Security Concerns/Social Media Policy: Caitlin Monaghan

Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) takes a proactive approach to managing its online presence and protecting its reputation on social media. The company has implemented a comprehensive social media strategy that encompasses clear policies, proactive monitoring, and a commitment to open communication.

At the heart of BMS's social media strategy lies a well-defined social media policy that outlines the company's expectations for employee behavior on social media platforms. This policy emphasizes the importance of maintaining confidentiality, protecting sensitive information, and respecting others. Employees are also expected to refrain from making discriminatory or offensive statements and engaging in personal attacks.

BMS actively monitors social media for any content that could potentially harm the company's reputation or violate its policies. This monitoring process includes tracking employee posts, identifying third-party content, and addressing competitor activity. The company's social media team is responsible for identifying and addressing inappropriate content, which may include posts by BMS employees, third parties, or even competitors.

When faced with negative feedback on social media, BMS approaches the situation with a customer service and reputation management mindset. They typically engage with the reviewer to understand their concerns and offer solutions or apologies where appropriate. This demonstrates their commitment to transparency and open communication, even when faced with criticism.

An example of BMS's approach to social media management can be seen on their YouTube channel. While there are some negative comments on their videos, BMS's social media team actively responds to these comments, addressing concerns and providing information. This demonstrates their commitment to transparency and open communication, even when faced with criticism.

BMS's approach to social media security is multifaceted, encompassing policy implementation, monitoring activities, and response strategies. They recognize the importance of social media as a communication tool and strive to use it responsibly, while also protecting the company's reputation and maintaining a positive online presence.
